Stop and Smell the Roses

It was a usual Thursday morning at my household. The kids were getting ready for school, and I kept nagging them: “Did you pack your snack? Did you wash your water bottles? Did you brush your teeth? Did you brush your hair?” I was also hustling in the kitchen, making coffee, and unloading the dishwasher. I was in a rush to finish as I had to respond to a couple of urgent work emails.

Then it was time for the kids to put on their shoes and get out of the door. I gave them a goodbye kiss and off they went to the bus stop.  As I was watching them walk away down the court, they stopped to smell the Knockout roses in my neighbor’s front yard – beautiful crimson roses, in their last bloom before the late fall. They smelled a couple of blossoms, giggled, and continued their walk to the bus stop.

And then it hit me. There is ALWAYS time to stop and smell the roses. No matter how busy, how hectic, how crazy your day is. A couple of deep breaths, a quick look through the window, a short pause to listen to the bird’s chirp is all that is needed. This will bring you back in the moment and will give you an opportunity to acknowledge that all is well.

How exquisite!!!! Stop, smell, giggle and keep moving. The essence of the rose 🌹 is our own. We can learn so much from children. Thank you for posting this.
